Getting latitude and longitudes using Google maps on mobile devices

Getting the exact latitude and longitude of a house might sound technical, but with Google Maps, it’s actually very simple. Whether you're sharing a location for deliveries, solar installation assessments, or just helping someone find your home easily, this quick method will do the trick.

Start by opening Google Maps on your phone or computer. In the search bar, type in your address, street name, or a nearby landmark to navigate to your area. Once the map loads, switch to satellite (aerial) view so you can clearly see buildings and rooftops. Next, locate your house visually on the map. When you’ve found it, press and hold directly on the roof of the building. After a moment, a red pin will appear exactly where you pressed. This pin marks the precise location of your house.

As soon as the pin drops, a menu will pop up from the bottom of the screen. Look for the section labeled “Nearby address” and tap on it. This will expand to reveal more details, including a set of numbers, these are your coordinates (latitude and longitude). Click on the coordinates, and Google Maps will automatically copy them to your clipboard.

That’s it, you now have the exact geographic coordinates of your house, ready to paste and share wherever needed. It’s a small trick, but incredibly useful, especially for things like deliveries, logistics, mapping projects, or even planning solar installations where precision matters.
